Hacking The E71

May 2, 2009

Just completed hacking my Nokia E71 phone. Main reason was to enable installation of any .sis file. Nokia’s default ’signing’ process prevents any “unsigned” .sis files from being installed by the user. If you’ve legitimately purchased the hardware, you should have every right to do whatever you want it with it, both hardware and software wise.

The E71 is the best phone I’ve ever used, so the only thing holding it back for me was the ’signing’ process required for installation files.

Good as gold now!

For those wanting to follow suit, here are the sites I used to hack my E71. You require a ‘Developer Cert and Key pair’ that can be sourced from opda.net.cn. Usually takes about 24-hours to receive one. Just follow the tutorial below. Follow the opda.net.cn first, to source your cert & key.

Using your Cert & key, use the application siscontents to sign the HelloOX.sis file. Copy to your memory card, install and enjoy.

Use it how you may.

As you known most of other sites offering certs have been closed.. so the only method we have right now is to use OPDA for new certificate..

Well I found that most of the friends here facing some problems getting OPDA certs, so I tried to make a new OPDA cert guide, hope this will help you guys and if you have any problems or something, please let me know.. I will try to answer you asap.

This guide require you to register at OPDA Forum Go there only for certificate

First we need to register there..

1. Open www.opda.net.cn in your browser and click on Register.

2. Click on first option as you are saying that you accept the terms and condition.

3. You may get a kind of error if you have any kind of Firewall or Internet security tool installed, however if you click on Register once again and then again accept the terms and conditions, it wont trouble you again.. as well as some of the users may not get this problem also.

HelloOX 1.03: one step hack for Symbian S60 3rd ed. phones, and for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic too

HelloOX Symbian hack, install unsigned programs and moreHelloOX by bugb is a simple way to hack Symbian on phones with firmware that resists the old HelloCarbide method. With HelloOX you can install unsigned programs and give yourself full access to Symbian’s system folders on your phone, so you can customise the way your mobile phone looks and behaves in ways that are impossible on locked down systems.

You used to have to sign and install HelloOX together with MapDrives, and remove the mapped drives that it created by rebooting your phone. ROMPatcher was also installed by default, which could cause problems on some Feature Pack 2 phones.

But not anymore. Hacking your phone with HelloOX is now a simple process with just one program that does it all for you. Sign, install, run, ready.
